Roux’s Favorite Things

We live in a world full of options!

And while that can be exciting, the number of choices can be overwhelming.

That’s why we created “Roux’s Favorite Things”. 

A list of our gym-bag essentials that we put together after a lot of hours and weeks and years of using these products ourselves.

The workouts are hard enough, let us help you by taking the guesswork out of buying gym gear!

  1. Shoes

Ever try a max deadlift while standing on a mattress? I wouldn’t try, but that’s basically what you’re doing when you’re wearing running shoes.  You want a shoe with a firm sole, something that you can push against without having it compress. You also want to be able to run in that same shoe and be able to jump, push and pull stuff as well. We run, jump, lift heavy weights, climb ropes, scale buildings and generally, do superhero stuff everyday.  So we need a shoe that’s able to deal with all of the variance (and superhero-ing) that we typically deal with. There’s a lot out there, but our favorites are NoBull, STRK/MVMNT, and Reebok Nanos.

  1. Jump Rope

Before you got this gym membership the last time you jumped a real rope (pretending to double dutch on the dance floor doesn’t count) was when you were on a school playground. You can master this skill in no time, but you’re gonna need your own rope. None of the ropes that you are borrowing right now are the same length. The best way to learning this skill is by having a rope that is fitted to you. So we have two options for you to fit your style. The RX Smart Gear Rope that is a little heavier and the RPM Speed Rope that is, well, speedy.

  1. Grips

Kiss those baby soft hands goodbye, because you will soon be developing some hands that are going to allow you to sling weights and hang from the bar like a monkey. BUT what we don’t want to happen is to have your handy new callous’ rip, this will put you out if the game for a week.  Investing in a pair of gymnastics grips will make all of the difference.

  1. Belt

You may think weightlifting belts are just for the Strongmen, but, wait! You can use them too! Wearing a belt during your heavy lifts can help support and stabilize your core and help keep your lower back safe.Like this weightlifting belt that will  help you out without breaking the bank.

  1. Rock Guard Calf Sleeve

You may not think about it, but your shins can take a beating in CrossFit. That’s why we love these Calf Sleeves from Rock Guard. They are more durable than your knee high socks from high school gym class and will keep you rolling through rope climbs and box jumps like a boss.

  1. Warm-Up and Recovery Tools

We are so excited that you joined Roux (or any gym) but be smart. A lot of times we get so excited about our new training routine and how awesome our jeans from 5 years ago look on us, that we go from 0 to 60 in a week. Grab these essentials to help you warm up and cool down properly so you get the most out of each workout!

 

Resistance Bands 

These lightweight bands are great to help you warm up or can be easily packed to take with you on vacation.

LAX Balls 

Sore spot? Taking 5 minutes to use these to target sore spots will help get your ready for any workout. It’s like giving yourself a 5 minute massage everyday.

Foam Roller

Having trouble climbing stairs after those lunges? Same here. That’s why we love having a foam roller available to roll out all of that lactic acid build up in your rock hard muscles.

Tiger Balm

We just love this stuff. A small amount of this topical cream not only helps relieve muscle pain, but quite honestly, will help with any congestion as well. Move better AND breath better. Win-win in our books.

  1. Gym Bag

Don’t think we forgot! Once you have all of the gear needed to attack your workouts, you need a sweet gym bag to put it all in.
